Well, it’s the end of an era. Jim Tressel has resigned as head coach at Ohio State.
After 10 of our most successful seasons, Jim Tressel has resigned at the head coat at Ohio State for our football program.
“After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach,” Tressel said in a statement Monday morning. “The appreciation that Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.”After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach. Assistant coach Luke Fickell, who had been named to fill in for Tressel during the first five games of the 2011 season in which he was to be suspended, will take over as the interim head coach, Ohio State said in the news release. Tressel was entering his 11th season as head coach for the Buckeyes. He finishes with a 106-22 record at Ohio State (66-14 in the Big Ten). He won a national championship in 2002, seven Big Ten championships, including the past six, and had a 9-1 record against Michigan.Ohio State spokesman Jim Lynch said he was unaware of any buyout or severance package.
WHAT!? Seriously? Gordan Gee joked a few months back with reporters when they asked if Tressel would be fired and said, “I just hope he doesn’t fire me.” I just don’t see how this is going to make anything better. I feel really bad for the senior students that decided not to declare for the NFL and wanted to stay behind and try again for a national championship. Because we’re definitely, definitely not going to get one now.
I AM SO ANGRY. Not at Tressel but at those stupid students that put him in this position in the first place. Yes, he should’ve reported this to the NCAA immediately… but I am still allowed to blame shift and be pissed at someone else.
